Welcome

Avenue for Meditative Photography and Sharing Earth’s Beauty

Over the past few decades, I have had the opportunity to pursue my passion for exploring nature. However, it wasn’t until a few years ago that I took a step back and noticed that my connection with photography was different from that of most people. This led me to ask a series of questions and begin a journey within.

Seeing the Bigger Picture

My photographic journey had no map or goal, it was more a meandering intuitive thing. But over time the questions built up in my mind:

  • Why is photography so meaningful to me?
  • Why are the feelings and the positive emotional outcome I get from taking photographs almost completely disconnected from the photos themselves?
  • What are the real stumbling blocks for sharing all of this with others?

Link to a Wellness Lifestyle

It started coming into focus as I pursued other healthy activities. I noticed that I’d have the same relaxed and rejuvenated feelings from a hard workout or a mountain bike ride as I’d get from spending the day with my camera. And even more interesting, I found that my mind was just as calm and clear when I was meditating or doing yoga as it was when I was out taking photos.

Mindfulness & Gratitude

When I’m behind the camera it’s as if my entire field of vision is hyper focused and the rest of the world just falls away. There’s no mental chatter or worry or to do lists. In those singular moments I’m overcome with immense appreciation for the incredible beauty that exists in this world.

Eye for Beauty

And it really clicked when my girls started mocking me, “Look at the [fill in the blank], it’s so beautiful,” they’d exclaim. “We’d better say it before Mom does!”

I realize that after so many years of taking photos I had gravitated to seeking out nature’s beauty even when I didn’t have a camera in my hand. The best part is that I had taught my daughters to do the same.

Making the Connection

I finally came across some photography books and articles that started helping me link all of this together. It introduced me to the world of meditative photography – it’s a thing! Just discovering this has made me feel more comfortable with who I am as a photographer. My worldview has broadened from photography as a career and/or art form to photography as a tool for giving: giving mindfulness and giving photos away in the name of kindness and philanthropy.

Silver Linings

2020 feels like a perfect time to kick-off this website! So much has happened to cause stress and pain in our lives, so I hope to alleviate some of that with beautiful photos and meditative photography ideas.

Strangely, I have this pandemic to thank for forcing me to cancel many travel and photography trips I’d planned this year. Other than walks, bike rides and a great hiking/camping trip along Tennessee Pass, Colorado with some sweet llamas and my girls, I have parked myself at my computer to curate and write.

It will take time to get all the images uploaded and the store up and running, so check back often. For now, please excuse all the unintended puns and welcome to
